  4. Prescription renewals and requests will not be accepted by fax or phone. Please book an appointment if you need a prescription.
  5. If Dr. Li is away and you have an acute illness, you may be seen in office by Dr. Tang, or you can go to your nearest walk-in clinic, urgent care clinic, or hospital emergency room.
  6. Please be aware students and/or administrative volunteers may be working at the office under the supervision of regular staff.
To improve scheduling & wait times
  1. Please be on time for your appointment. If you are more than 15 minutes late you will be seen as a walk-in patient.

Results policy

All patients will receive a call from our office whether your results are normal or abnormal.  If your results are normal, the receptionist will tell you that your result is normal and that you do not need to come back to see your doctor. If your results are abnormal, the receptionist will tell you that your result is abnormal and that you need to book an appointment to see your doctor.

If you do not receive a call from us, either your phone number is not correct or some of your results are missing. It is your responsibility to call us back and inform us that you have not received your results.

Referrals

If a referral to a specialist is being made for you by our office, either our office or the specialist’s office will contact you with the appointment time. Our goal is to have and appointment date for you within two weeks of your visit to our clinic; however, due to wait lists at the specialist’s office, you may not be contacted within 2 weeks. Some specialists wait times are longer, for example: orthopedic surgeons and psychiatrists.  Please speak with the receptionist on your way out to find out how long the wait time is for your specialist. Pleas call us back after 2 weeks or 4 weeks depending on the type of specialist.

Controlled Medications

Some medications, such as sleeping pills (“benzodiazepines”), pain medications (“narcotics”) and ADHD medications have special prescribing rules. This is for your safety as these rules help you to minimize the risks of overuse and side effects, and ensure proper usage.

We do not prescribe controlled substances to patients who are not our patients. We do not provide refills earlier then the times decided at the prescribing visit. We ask that all patients receive these medications from only one doctor and fill these prescriptions at only one pharmacy. Any irregularities may lead to the medication no longer being prescribed.

Behaviours

Our front staff are specially chosen and trained to help patients. They are here to arrange your appointments with Dr. Li and specialists, communicate with hospitals and other health facilities when needed, help you to get all kinds of paperwork done and more.  They make every effort to make your visit as pleasant and comfortable as possible. In turn, we ask that your behaviour is respectful to our staff. There is a zero tolerance for abuse of any kind and any abuse may lead to your dismissal from the practice.

In order to provide you with the best possible care, a satisfactory doctor-patient relationship is necessary. If for any reason, this relationship becomes compromised, then it may be best for both parties to end the relationship. If this occurs you will be given written notification as per the CPSO guidelines, and as per the guidelines we will provide emergency medical care for up to three months or when you find a new family doctor, whichever comes first.

Privacy policy

We respect our patients and patient confidentiality. We will not disclose patient information to any 3rd party without the patient’s prior written consent (except when required by law). We ask for the same respect in return. If you have any comments or complaints, you can forward to Dr. Li by letter or you can speak with us directly. We do value your input.
